BURGLARS SELECTING VICTIMS USING VEHICLE REGISTRATION INFORMATION

The King County Sheriff's Office in northeastern King County, along with several eastside city police agencies, is investigating incidents of burglary following vehicle prowls.
Suspects are prowling vehicles while the victims are at a restaurant, movie, shopping center, etc. Suspects enter the victim's vehicle, view the vehicle registration in the vehicle, and then burglarize the victim's home.
Summary of Incidents in NE King County:
At least two burglaries in Redmond Ridge last week and one in Sammamish this week followed vehicle prowls while victims were parked in other east side cities for leisure activities. There is no suspect information in any of these incidents.
Personal Safety and Crime Prevention:
Talk with your neighbors and watch out for each others' homes
Be aware of your neighborhood including vehicles and persons not
previously seen in your neighborhood
Consider renting a PO Box and register your vehicle to that address.
Use locking compartments in your vehicle to secure your registration and provide an obstacle for thieves
Do not leave garage door openers in your vehicle
How You Can Help:
Call 911 immediately when you see suspicious activity, and explain to the call receiver why the activity is suspicious to you, including:
o Vehicle parked with a person inside as lookout while others
approach a home.
o Person seen knocking at door, then going to backyard or other
concealed entry point
o Anytime a stranger enters a garage or is seen going into a backyard
