It is often hard to admit it, but Indian movies can be quite generic. There is the standard hero and heroine, the family, the iconic conflict of love, and of course, a long recurring soundtrack consisting of various tunes to which the characters sing, dance, and live to.

These kinds of movies come a dime a dozen in the Bollywood industry. However, we have already acknowledged that this is common for Indian movies " what we care about is how these kinds of movies are executed.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar, definitely strayed from the many movies in its genre. With leading actors Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, the movie flowed onwards with excitement, liveliness, and charm.

The movie follows story of a medical student, Naina (Deepika Padukone), who can only dream of a life with excitement, friends, and less studying. After meeting with an old classmate, Aditi (Kalki Koechlin), Naina makes an impulsive decision and joins Aditi on a mountain hiking expedition. During this journey, she meets another classmate, the eccentric and free Kabir, a.k.a Bunny, played by Ranbir Kapoor, who wants to travel the world. Naina eventually becomes best friends with Kabir, who helps here emerge from her shell and embrace a new lifestyle. Their friendship blossoms into love as they venture further into the mountains.

However, as it so happens, they do not get together afterwards, but go their separate ways to fulfill their careers.

Several years pass, and they reunite at Aditi's lavish wedding in Udaipur, which basically spans the second half of the movie. During the majority of the wedding scenes, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani boasts one of its best features: its catchy soundtrack.

As characters reintroduce themselves, there are several large-scale dances, which nicely accompany songs such as Badtameeza Dil, a showy feature in which Ranbir Kapoor instigates a wild party within the extravagant wedding halls. Even at the very beginning of the film, the audience was captured by the energetic and upbeat item song, Ghagra, featuring dancing by Madhuri Dixit. The dancing was certainly impressive all throughout the movie, as well as the songs. The number of songs was adequate for such a long movie, and luckily they did not completely drown the plot.

Following the intermission, the movie became quite predictable. The hero eventually had to choose between love and his career, and it was no surprise he picked the former. Rest assured, this did not completely detract from the overall fun and enjoyment of the film.

Ultimately, this film was different from the norm. There was lots of action, entertainment, dancing, a decent plot, and some great songs to accompany the movie. Of course, one can only dream of such intensive, carefree partying as depicted in the movie, but that is why I feel this movie was well done. It allows us to elude the stresses of our lives and temporarily live a fantasy.

Overall, Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani is a positive, uplifting story, as well as a great feel-good Hindi movie.
