The Church Missionary Society was organized in London under the original name of the Society for Missions in Africa and the East. This Anglican missions agency currently works in fields located in Africa, Ceylon, India, Pakistan, Iran and Palestine.

4/1/1935The Reserve Bank of India was established as a Central Bank and the job of issuing notes was entrusted to this bank. The Commissioner's office which issued currency was abolished and was substituted by the Governer of the RBI. The issue offices scattered around the country came to be called as the regional offices of the Reserve Bank.
5/7/1849Bethune College of Calcutta was established in the upper class families and it was started for female education.

Turkey's `Pocket Hercules', weightlifter Naim Suleymanoglu, who captured three Olympic gold medals, calls it a day in Ankara.

10/3/1906Govind Vinayak Devansthali, Sanskrit researcher, dictionary creator, professor and journalist, was born in Bombay.
3/18/1919Rowlatt Act, intended to perpetuate the extraordinary powers enjoyed by the Government under Lord Chelmsford during the war, provokes countrywide protests. This Rowlatt Act was forced instead of 1915 Indian Security Act which reduced freedom of Indian people.
6/13/1999The Indian army secures the strategic Tololing peak in the Dras sector.
