Covid-19: Andhra continues to log higher recoveries

Amaravati, Sep 18 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh has been consistent in clocking a higher number of recoveries than the daily detection rate of new Covid infections, health officials said on Friday.

The state reported 8,096 new coronavirus cases on Friday, pushing the tally to 6.09 lakh, while the overall recoveries mounted to 5.19 lakh, after 11,803 more people recovered on the same day, officials added.

With 1,405 more infections, East Godavari district continues to be the ground zero of the pandemic in the southern state.

Among other places, Chittoor accounted for 902 infections, followed by Prakasam 713, Guntur 513, Srikakulam 496, Vizianagaram 487, Nellore 468, and Ananthapuram 463, among others.

With the new additions, East Godavari's tally rose to 83,852 as it outnumbered Prakasam in active cases.

Meanwhile, Covid fatalities in the last 24 hours declined below the daily average of 70 at 67 deaths. On adding the new deaths, AP's Covid toll rose to 5,244, officials said.

Of the 6.09 lakh cases, active cases have declined to 84,423 from 88,197 on Thursday.
