Punjab CM lays foundation stones of developmental projects

Sultanpur Lodhi/Dera Baba Nanak, Nov 30 (IANS) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday laid the foundation stones of six developmental projects worth Rs 40.75 crore in Sultanpur Lodhi to commemorate birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev.

After attending the function held to mark the end of celebrations that began on the 550th Prakash Purb of the first Sikh master, Amarinder Singh laid the foundations stones of projects to conserve Qila Sarai at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore, grid-tied rooftop solar power plant at Government Senior Secondary School at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore, and a smart school for Rs 9.5 crore.

Listing some other projects that had been announced and completed at Sultanpur Lodhi during the 550th Prakash Purb celebrations, the Chief Minister said the beautification of the holy Kali Bein was done at a cost of Rs 10.8 crore, while Guru Nanak Dev Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training had been set up at a cost of Rs 319 crore.

The Bebe Nanki College for Girls had been established in this area in this period, he said, adding that the widening and construction of six town roads had been completed, along with upgradation of the railway station.

In another step to ensure easy movement of devotees and traffic towards Gurdwara Ber Sahib, three high-level bridges have been constructed on the holy Bein, in addition to two foot overbridges and two pontoon bridges at the sacred water channel.

Later, at Dera Baba Nanak, another historic town associated with the first Sikh Guru, the Chief Minister, accompanied by state Congress President Sunil Jakhar, Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and member of Parliament Preneet Kaur, dedicated to the people all projects taken up in 63 villages and 14 towns visited by Guru Nanak Dev.

Besides, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of a heritage street, Guru Nanak Dev Sugarcane Research and Development Institute at Kalanaur to come up in 100 acres, and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Museum and clock tower.
