Historical Event on 4/1/1935

The Reserve Bank of India was established as a Central Bank and the job of issuing notes was entrusted to this bank. The Commissioner's office which issued currency was abolished and was substituted by the Governer of the RBI. The issue offices scattered around the country came to be called as the regional offices of the Reserve Bank.

6/22/1910Mohommed Hussain `Azad', great Urdu poet, eassy writer and critic, died.
2/1/1901Six language penel were started on the Rs. five dinomination. These notes were single sided and the back side could be used for accounting purposes. The six languages were Urdu, Bengali, Telugu, Kaithi, Kannada and Tamil. The paper used for printing was white hand made and moulded.
2/22/1946Curfew imposed till 9 p.m. by the British in Bombay as rioting and looting continued for the second day.
3/10/1995ONGC's oil rig that blew out ( January 8 ) at Pasalapudi site near Amalapuram (Andhra Pradesh) put out after 62 days.
